Getting around
In Luang Prabang
A bicycle is the easiest and cheapest way to get around Luang Prabang. Most places are within an easy 15 minute bike ride. These are available for rent all over town for 20,000 kip per day. You can also rent a bike at our guesthouse for 10.000 kip per day - ask Hamish. The money is used to support the Santiphab school library.
Motorbikes are also available for rent but quite expensive at 120,000 kip per day plus gas.
There are mini-vans for rent with driver, which the owner of the Guesthouse can arrange if you want.
There are no cars for rent available.
There are tuk tuk 3-wheel taxis also available. Most commonly if you share you pay 10,000 kip to get to most places. But make sure you agree on a price before you get in .The owner of the guesthouse can arrange most trips at a reasonable price.
Outside of Luang Prabang
The main attractions are the Kuang Sae and the Taed Sae waterfalls - one hour by tuk-tuk (shared 30.000 kip) or mini-van (shared 50.000 kip).
The Pak Ou caves, with dozens of old Buddha statues and the Lao Whiskey producing village can be reached by slowboat in around 60 minutes (90.000 per person).
